Usually happens in men and affects the big toes. The extent of the disease is different from each other and cannot be predicted. Some people can have multiple joints involved and develop swellings called tophus (tophi). They can burst open and excrete chalky materials. Excision of the lumps can be done but the wound healing might not be good because of the skin involvement.

A 48year old lady with the fracture patella .The distal fragment was comminuted. This tension band wiring gives a good reduction. By 6 weeks she achieves a full range of knee movement.
Usually happens to ladies with severe pain over the shoulder. The pain could be so severe disturbing sleep making them cry. A steroid injection is very satisfactory.
This is a case of the tuberculosis of the spine (Pott’s spine ), where the cold abscess drains to the back (Petit’s triangle).
